Having just come out of a near 5 day stay in hospital, it has given me a look at the condition that you arrive then subsequently leave in.
Now you may be in there for general surgery, chemo, minor operation, general observations I don’t know, but the pervading sense is that yes, you are in for treatment, v necessary etc, but that you do very little.
Now firstly, I have to say, some people I saw could not do anything. They were properly I’ll. There needs to be a reality check from BOTH ends. Proper sick is proper sick. Get healthy, then get fitter when well.
Now my treatment was being infused for 3 1/2 days with various stuff. All pretty horrible. But on certain days and times, all I longed to do was get some EXERCISE, some fresh air. Move more.
Now can this but just me?
Possibly?
Maybe not.
There is physically evidence of endorphin release at times of mild to moderate exercise.
Lethargy begets lethargy as exercise begets more energy release. A physical chemical fact.
Therefore: Could there not be some kind of physical exercise pack, routine, suggestion that is made by your doctor, consultant whoever for your stay in hospital?
Obesity related illnesses cost the NHS billions of pounds a year.
Something could be done better here, I’m bloody sure of it!
If we could make stays in hospital not only treatment but education about potential!
Is that not worth aiming for?
