Macksfitness was created back in 2009 but its beginnings were much earlier.
My name is Andy McNeil and I am the creator and Director of Macksfitness. I have always had an interest in sport and fitness, back to playing Yorkshire league level squash when I was 16 years old, and taking part in the Great North run on multiple occasions.
Ironically it was an injury that first led me to resume my interest in fitness and exercise. I was doing a pretty sedentary job at the time, and got a scoliosis of the spine, also known as a bulging disc.
This in turn led to a period of rehabilitation using core strengthening exercises that a physiotherapist advised and a love affair with the now widely acclaimed Joseph Pilates art of Contrology (now known as Pilates) was born.
I then re-trained as a level 2 Gym instructor, adding circuit training, nutrition and then my level 3 Personal trainer, level 3 Pilates teacher onto that. I also have an advanced gym instructor qualification, Boxercise, Kickboxercise and Boxercise for kids.
I have always believed that looking after one’s physical health is of up-most importance. Not only for the bodily reasons but also the mental and social ones.
At Macksfitness we have fun when we train
Whether it be a circuit class outdoors or an Indoor beginners Pilates class, the aim is to get fit and healthy, strong and supple but also enjoy doing it! We believe that exercise is a social occasion, but that hard work goes hand in hand with it!
Macksfitness currently trains over 150 people a week, through Personal training, corporate classes and private classes.
We are currently one of the biggest Corporate Wellness/Corporate Fitness providers in Hampshire, with more companies joining all the time! Taylor Wimpey and Marketing Sciences Unlimited are two of our latest corporate clients!
Jack Aitcheson: Personal trainer
The most important part of exercise to me is too make sure all of my clients are challenged mentally and physically, leaving the session content that they have pushed themselves to the limit.
I have good experience to draw on with interests in rehabilitation, boxing, strength training and most importantly functional training. This allows all of my clients to move correctly, freely and still achieve their goals.
Having boxed for 7 years I know exactly what it is like to push your body to the maximum and reach new heights that you thought were impossible. For your body to adapt you need to be put out of your comfort zone, this is true for all aspects of life.
Bsc (Hons) Fitness and Personal training
Level 2 certified Amateur Boxing Coach
REPS Level 3 personal trainer certification
Sports Massage Qualification
Whilst studying at university I have gained many valuable experiences such as working with athletes on conditioning programmes to improve at their sport, older adults training including medical referrals and a lot of experience massaging a variety of clients.
I started off my amateur boxing career at a small club called Horsham ABC. Since walking into the gym 6 years ago I have fallen in love with the sport and never looked back. In my 6 years of competing I boxed in the amateur boxing championships, represented my county and boxed abroad in Germany.
Boxing has really shaped who I am today and I am so lucky to be able to pass that passion over to my clients and people around me.
I gained my level 2 ABA award in November 2015 and haven’t looked back since.
Amie Gillingham: Power Class teacher
I have just completed my personal training level 3 qualification.
I am a current British weightlifting level 1 coach where I volunteer at Lakeside weightlifting and British Gymnastics level 2 coach which I teach pre-school and recreational gymnastics at Places for People Eastleigh.
Whilst growing up I was 6th in the country for Sports Aerobics and loved training in Gymnastics.
I am also a keen snowboarder and runner, recently completed the Romsey 5 mile at Broadlands and am very keen to enter a few more events this year.
As you can see I love fitness of any kind.
Aimee Dibbens: Pilates teacher
I am a Level 3 Pilates teacher, and a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs).
Having experienced the benefits of Pilates first hand – as a keen rower, runner, cyclist and skier, as well as in the workplace as a Publisher – I qualified as a Pilates teacher in 2015. I love sharing my passion for Pilates with others, helping build healthy, happy bodies.
I currently take corporate Pilates classes for Macks Fitness in central Winchester. I am available for one to one Pilates sessions as well as group bookings.
